The Shadow Falls
Chapter 5
The moon was beginning to rise, the silvery light making it easier to see. Blacka, Karazia and Domino Jack had run and scrambled desperately through the forest and all of them were tired. Behind them some of the guards had set after them with horses while the others followed on foot. The horsemen had to go carefully in the dark forest or risk their horses' legs; but slowly and surely they were gaining on Blacka, Karazia and Domino Jack .
'Damn, those guys on horses will catch us!' said Domino Jack, half scrambling, half jumping over a fallen tree trunk.
'No they won't! Domino Jack, after you two fall, you're going get up and keep running, do you understand?' said Blacka.
'W-what, wher..' was all Domino jack was able to say. before Blacka shoved him into the stomach with her head. He sprawled into Karazia and because she was really light they both fell off the top of the high bank. They tumbled down and landed next to the river.
'Is she crazy, she wants to kill us!' declared Domino Jack grabbing his hat and ramming it back on his head.
Karazia leapt up 'No, she has some kind of plan, come on...we've got to keep running!
'Wait, I know that tree' said Domino pointing to an old oak that had been blackened and hollowed out by a lightning strike. 'There's a cave nearby, I hid in it once, c'mon!' he grabbed her hand to help her keep up with his longer strides.
On the top of the bank, Blacka kept running, too. The guards hadn't seen her push Karazia and Domino Jack over the edge as there had been some trees in the way.
'Hey, where are the other, two?' asked one of the guards, noticing that they were missing.
'I don't know, but let's catch her first!' shouted one of the other guards.
The path ended at some rocks and under them was the river. Blacka stopped there as there was no place left to run.
'Hahahah, there is no place to run now!' said one of the guards triumphantly.
Blacka knew that she could hold her breath under the water for longer than most normal creatures. She turned her head to look at the guards and shouted 'Better dead than in your hands!' and she made her decision. She jumped from the rocks into the water...
Sir Kyran and Rodofo the Half-Dead one returned to the camp to find it in turmoil and their hostages gone. Kyran turned on Rodofo 'I knew it was a mistake to give them time to do something like this' he raged. Rodofo merely stared back and replied coldly 'They would not have not gotten far, your guards will bring them back by morning I'm sure.'
Kyran, furious at Rodofo's indifference, whirled round and headed towards his horse, calling up the water element in the forest dew to help track down the escapees.
Rodofo shrugged and turned towards his tent. Then he suddenly stopped and looked round. 'She has been here...' he hissed.
