The Shadow Falls
Chapter 7
Kyran followed the dew trail until it split in two. 'One went this way, two down here...' he told his riders. There was a noise up ahead as the solders chasing Blacka returned empty handed.
'Report, Captain' commanded Kyran. "I'm sorry my Lord, but the intruder jumped into the river where we were unable to pursue her' explained the captain Tozan 'We are uncertain where the two captives left the path'
Kyran swung off his horse and slid down the bank to the river. He plunged his hand into the raging waters. " She is no longer in the river, she left it further upstream' he announced 'but no matter, for now we let her go.' Kyran lifted his hand out of the water and rose. 'Our two captives have traveled down this bank and they are more important quarry.' The soldiers fell in behind Kyran as he led the way after Domino Jack and Karazia.
Karazia stumbled over a rock in the gloom of the cave. "how did you find this place anyhow?" she asked, irritably rubbing her shin "And what are you looking for?' Domino Jack was rummaging around at the back of the cave. "Ah well... heh, I kinda caused some trouble, er, helping a lady in distress, uh you know... and had ta lie low for a while. I thought the woods would be a good place, then ole Lady Luck showed me this gracious place, until Morgan dragged my butt back ta the Tower.'
He straightened up, ' But I had myself a plan of hiding a few helpful lil' items here just in case' He turned and showed Karazia his spare rifle that he had unearthed. 'Don't like the thought of being unarmed with t' bad guys after us' he said with a wink. Karazia rolled her eyes. 'That's nice" she said.
'Heyow!' A voice came suddenly out of the gloom behind him. Domino Jack jumped in fright and spun around. 'Aww man, don't scare me like that, I could have blown ya head right off!' he said recognizing the dark skinned teen who bounced out of the shadows with a happy grin. 'Jay, what the hell are ya doing here anyway?' exclaimed Domino Jack
'Who's this pretty lady?' asked Jay completely ignoring Domino Jack's question and bounding up to Karazia. Karazia saw that he carried an ornate magical staff.
'Er, hello, I'm Karazia' she introduced herself.
'Hello Karazia, you can call me Jay, everyone else does! It's so wonderful to meet you!' said Jay taking her hand, bowing and kissing it. It was Domino Jack's turn to roll his eyes. 'Jay...' he began warningly. Jay span and tucked himself next to Domino Jack. 'Your girlfriend is pretty. Are you hiding in here to elude her husband?' he whispered as a conspirator while nudging Domino Jack in the ribs.
'What? No!' Domino Jack clipped Jay round the back of the head 'will you get your mind out of the gutter for one minute! We were running away. Didn't you notice the great big army sitting on the lawn out there?
'Ooh yah, I was on my way to the Tower with Mojo and saw it. Then I saw you two and came over to see what you were doing' nodded Jay with a big grin and a twinkle in his eye.
'You mean ya was nosey and 'ported in here to spy on us' concluded Domino Jack grumpily. 'Where's Mojo?'
'Outside. He doesn't find you as interesting as I do!' said Jay cheerfully. Domino Jack pulled a face at that. 'Well now that you're here, can ya teleport us all t' the Tower?' he asked.
Jay had put one of his hood toggles in his mouth and was sucking it absent-mindedly. `Nuuuh, can't teleport in the Tower, the magic protection's too strong. Can teleport outside the Tower though' he said around it.
'Teleport?' inquired Karazia, trying to keep up.
'Jay is a mage and is far too good at teleportation for his own good' Domino Jack explained.
'Yah, here, then there, it's most fun!' grinned Jay grasping her hand and pulling her towards the cave entrance. 'I'll show you, you'll like it.'
They stepped out of the cave entrance and saw Mojo sitting on rock staring intently upstream. 'Sorry to spoil the party but stay in the cave' he warned them without turning around 'there's someone I don't know approaching!'
